Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Katalyst RFID systems, rollout scope, implementation, integrations, and support.

RFID basics

What is RFID and how does it work?

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a wireless identification technology that uses radio waves to read tags attached to items. The system has three components: RFID tags (attached to goods), RFID readers (scanning devices), and a software platform (for real time data). A reader can pick up hundreds of tags at once in seconds, with no need to scan them one by one like barcodes.

What is the difference between RFID and barcodes?

Barcodes must be scanned one at a time with direct line of sight. RFID reads hundreds of items at once, even through cardboard packaging or shelving. The result: a stock count that takes 8 to 24 hours with barcodes can be done in 30 to 60 minutes with RFID. RFID tags are also more durable; dirt or folding does not stop them working the way it does barcode labels.

Is RFID technology right for my business?

RFID is best suited for businesses that: (1) manage 100+ SKUs or thousands of physical items, (2) count stock more than once a month, (3) frequently experience lost items or inventory discrepancies, or (4) want to automate inbound/outbound processes. Industries we serve: manufacturing, timber/wood, jewelry/retail, and warehousing. A free consultation can confirm whether it fits your business.

Platform & features

What features are available on the Katalyst platform?

Katalyst includes: Inbound & Outbound Management, Stock Audit (by area, by SKU, or all items), EPC level item tracking, Multi store & multi area management, RFID Tag Printing (ZPL format), a dry stock module for the timber industry, Fixed Reader integration for gate/door automation, and 8 modules in the Android handheld app. All data is real time and accessible from a web dashboard.

Is there a mobile app for warehouse staff?

Yes. Katalyst provides a custom Android APK for RFID handheld scanners. The app has 8 modules: Register Items, Manage Area, Move Area, Stock Audit, Area Audit, View & Search Inventory, Scan RFID, and Register RFID. It also includes an item finder that uses RFID signal strength to locate specific items. APK updates are delivered automatically via OTA.

Can Katalyst integrate with Odoo, SAP, or other ERPs?

Yes. Odoo has a ready integration. SAP, Accurate Online, other ERP or WMS systems, and internal tools can be connected via API or file exchange, scoped per project.

Implementation

How long does RFID implementation take?

On average 3 to 5 weeks from contract signing to go live. Breakdown: Week 1 for hardware setup and platform configuration, Week 2 for master data input and RFID tag printing, Week 3 for staff training and parallel run testing, then Weeks 4 to 5 for full go live and monitoring. ERP integration requirements add complexity.

Do I need a dedicated IT team to use Katalyst?

No. Katalyst is designed for warehouse staff and operations managers, with no special technical expertise required. The platform is web based (no software installation needed) and the handheld app is very intuitive. We provide a complete user manual, on site training, and technical support throughout the implementation period.

Do warehouse staff need special training?

Training is conducted on site by the Katalyst team during implementation, usually 1 to 2 full days. We also provide practical manuals and SOP guidance. After training, staff can typically operate the system independently, with ongoing support available after go live.

Scope & contract

How does a Katalyst rollout start?

With a free consultation. We look at your locations, the items you want to track, tag and reader needs, the systems to integrate, and your daily workflow, then propose a scope that usually starts with a small pilot.

What hardware is needed?

Hardware is scoped separately based on your workflow. Common components include handheld UHF RFID scanners, desktop readers, RFID labels or reusable tags, label printers, and optional fixed readers for automated gates.

Support & security

What does support look like after implementation?

Support is available during business hours (Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 13:00 WIB). For critical issues affecting operations, we respond within 2 to 4 hours. Platform updates are automatic (cloud SaaS), with no maintenance needed on your side. The handheld APK is updated over the air (OTA) or by USB when new features ship.

Is my inventory data safe in the cloud?

Yes. The Katalyst platform runs on cloud infrastructure with data encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Each client's data is fully isolated from others. We perform regular backups to prevent data loss. You retain full ownership of your data and can export it at any time. We do not sell or share client data with third parties.

Can Katalyst be used outside of Indonesia?

Yes. Because the platform is cloud based, it is accessible from anywhere in Indonesia or abroad with an internet connection. For on site implementation, hardware setup, and training, we can travel to client locations across Indonesia.
