Sign #1: Stock Counts Take Days
If your team needs 2 to 3 people working 2 to 3 full days to complete a stock count, your manual system has clearly hit its limit. With UHF RFID, the same count can be finished in hours, by a single operator.
In a warehouse with thousands of items, RFID may shorten stock audits. The time saved depends on item types, reader coverage, and workflow; validate it in a pilot before estimating results.
Sign #2: Items Frequently Go Missing or Get Misplaced
Inventory shrinkage is a real cost. Whether items are stolen, end up in the wrong location, or simply aren't recorded when moved, every missing item is a direct loss.
RFID provides individual tracking at the EPC level for each item. You know exactly where every item is, when it was moved, and who moved it.
Sign #3: Physical Stock and System Data Don't Match
"The system shows 100, the warehouse has 87." If this happens regularly, manual data entry is the culprit. Every manual input is an opportunity for human error.
With RFID and ERP integration, stock data can sync automatically in real time: scan in the warehouse, and the ERP record updates.
Sign #4: Items Are Stored Where They Are Hard to Reach
Warehouses with high racks, large floor areas, or heavy goods can make manual counting difficult. Read range depends on the reader, tag, item, and site conditions; test the setup in the actual environment.
Bonus: the Item Search feature uses signal strength to locate specific items within the warehouse. Scan from a distance, reduce the power gradually, and the strongest signal shows exactly where the item is.
Sign #5: You Need Automated Outbound Recording
If your warehouse has a gate or door that items pass through when they are shipped or transferred, a fixed RFID reader can detect every item automatically without any manual scanning.
Example scenario: at a timber processing plant, a fixed reader is installed at the production area entrance. Each pallet passing through is logged automatically, with no manual gate scan.
Next Steps
If your warehouse shows 2 or more of these signs, it's time to consider RFID. Start with:
- Free consultation: Discuss your warehouse and workflows with our team
- Schedule a demo: See the Katalyst platform live
- Pilot project: Start with one zone or area and prove the results
RFID is no longer a technology of the future; it's a modern business necessity.
